Take a Tour: Photo Gallery: PAST EVENTS: earth day 2009

Earth Day 2009 FlyerThe Chino Hills State Park Interpretive Association (CHSPIA) was the fiscal agent for Chino Hills State Park and its Earth Day event.  We expected 227 individuals that had registered in advance through the California State Parks Foundation and we had over 430 attend.  It was the biggest Earth Day event at the Park so far!  We had kids of all ages, families, friends and employees from sponsoring organizations.

The Activities
The November 2008 Freeway Complex fire destroyed 95% of the Park's 14,000 acres.

This Earth Day was focused on helping to heal the Park from the fire damages. Participants focused on three activities: creating seed balls, walnut propagation, native vegetation planting and fence repair. By way of background, seed balls are native plant seeds mixed with mud that are allowed to dry. In the fall, the seed balls are thrown onto the hillsides and in the first rain the mud dissolves around the seeds and the plant begins to grow.

Event Sponsors:
Thank you to the businesses that made this event possible: State Brothers, Coca Cola, the California State Parks Foundation, and Earth Grain.
